Self-Segregation of Races: Skeleton in the Integrationist Closet

The issue of self-segregation is back in the media. The Political Cesspool’s James Edwards appeared recently as a guest of the Paula Zahn Now! program on CNN alongside the Rev. Jesse Peterson in a moderated exchange of talking points (what passes for debate today) regarding the self-segregation of urban youth in public schools. First I would like to remark that we are isolated from the verdict of history and tradition on this point due to the efforts of the mass media, and the determination of public school systems and teacher’s unions to present only those opinions from history that conform to the foregone, so-called progressive conclusions with respect to race relations, and due further to their work in developing an atmosphere in which diversity of opinion on race relations is suppressed in favor of the progressive party line. Further, as was mentioned by Peterson during the program under discussion here, there is an almost unanimous impulse among whites (cultivated through massive institutional efforts) toward self-censorship when it comes to talk of race, while anecdotally we are all aware of a multitude of examples of racial comments from whites prefaced with the disclaimer of “now I’m not a racist or anything”. Well, in point of fact yes, you are, and so is every other being on the planet, conscious of race, conscious of ethnicity, and interested in the prosperity of the group to which he belongs biologically, and/or has emotionally assigned himself, and from which that sense of belonging been reciprocated.

It is paradoxical that the widely touted champions of diversity are so lacking in zeal to defend the right of minority opinions to be heard. Opinions cannot and must not be guaranteed a sympathetic audience, but they must be free to speak. It appears that minority advocacy is only a consideration when the color of the skin is in question, and not when voices, opinions themselves are in need of protection. We have long noted here that only whites are deemed capable of “racism” in the mass media and the institutions that devote themselves to the oxymoron “social justice”. The same opinions held by a “person of color” (i.e. non-white) is merely an expression of natural ethnic and racial self-interest, never an example of racism.

It has become redundant (and nearly tautological) to call a white a racist, against which epithet their pleas of reformation and repentance can never avail much. Witness, if you will, the ceremonial bowing and scraping that must occur whenever a white strays in his public sentiments across that movable line that demarcates acceptable white opinion on race. Trent Lott’s Senate seat was rescued, but for this pyrrhic victory he had to place a pinch of incense on the empress’s “sacred” pyre (Coretta Scott King), and engage in a humiliating auto de fe to purge himself of the demonic presence. His crime? Specifically, he had the temerity to render tepid honor to an old man of the South and a sitting Senator whose crime was to have supported segregation 40 years ago -a rather popular opinion in the South in those days. Heaven strike the politician who fails to be altogether Burkean (that is, manifestly not a “delegate”) in the matter of race or any other pet cause of the Ideological Empire, or insufficiently “populist” on every other account. This, when the left’s own iconic Senator Byrd is a former KKK leader, just like David Duke. Duke suffers disrepute and charges of worse than villainy (racism is deemed the greatest of all crimes) for constancy and consistency, and Byrd is adulated for his convenient “conversion”. Well, left and right are only infinitesimally distinct now, and their racial platforms are a veritable study in identity.  We digress, but we are not too far astray.

What is to be noted foremost is the degree to which the “problem” of the self-segregation of the races across all social contexts -almost unexceptional today- is either systematically ignored in popular media commentary or regarded as a social pathology that must be exposed by the race commissars and suitable bureaucratic placebos applied to the end that status and favor accrues to the demagogues, as the fact of self-segregation is a highly visible and embarrassing repudiation by nature itself of the efforts toward forced integration. Since it is widely known to be ineradicable, the profession of race demagoguery finds itself in the business of selling Santa Claus to grown ups. Thus it is all the more remarkable the success that they have indubitably had in this sordid trade –a success that like the drug trade cannot be maintained without ready market. Creating the market for racial self-annihilation by whites is the greatest advertising coup of all time.

Suppression of the truth is a losing battle. But fighting a losing battle has its perks. Growing the size and scope of the “civil sector” is one such perquisite. Since the clients of the race game can both dole out the foundation and civil sinecures, as well as set the ever fleeting mark for the satisfaction of its demands. Notwithstanding the integrationists moving Heaven and Earth to convince us that 2+2=5, nature itself is divided by kind, and humans are part of nature. Atop its orders, certainly, but not distinct from it. Another inconvenient fact (there are so many) is that the segregation of the races where it really matters (that is, in the sympathies and sentiments of the people) was far less severe and extreme under the legal regime of forced segregation, than now in the imaginary dimension of racial “reconciliation” that finds races mingling where they must, and in tune with their God-granted instincts, segregating where they are able, and eagerly consuming the rhetoric of racial enmity and jealousy from those who profit from these emotions. It was once not uncommon at all to witness genuine respect, sympathy, and moral solidarity between blacks and whites under segregation. Kinists, being champions of genuine diversity, want nothing so much as happy, prosperous, and distinct ethnic communities. The integration pogroms have set the races at bitter enmity and inculcated in them an abiding suspicion.

The part of the mass media in this affair is to propagate the tales of this imaginary reconciliation and frame it as an aspect of “moral progress” and “American values”. Every failure to convince us that the sky is green is an opportunity to impanel a committee, obtain a grant, write more intrusive legislation, and continue to wallow in the largesses that can be extracted from millions of captive consciences. Think of it as an ideological aphid farm. But the question arises, “whose American values”? Those of John Calhoun, or those of F.D.R.? The Calhoun school could fit on a school bus, whereas the F.D.R. school (formerly the Lincoln school) needs 4 television networks, and the Ford Foundation to accommodate its interests. When the hard right of racial opinion in the mass media is Sean Hannity, there is effectively no diversity of opinion in the media on segregation. The question is not even open for debate. When a man as temperate and philosophical as Jared Taylor is hooted down, jeered and jostled off stage at a scholarly debate, it doesn’t take the Delphic Oracle to divine the climate of opinion, though it is an artificial climate. But how did half a nation of segregationists vanish without a trace in a single generation? They didn’t; they simply went underground, muzzled themselves (save the occasional outburst of bad conscience), or sought therapy for their “disease” of the sentiments.

What we know is that kids in today’s racially diverse public schools prefer their own kind. It has always been thus, and it will always be thus. The degree to which white school children in the U.S. have absorbed both cliches and kitsch from Black culture is simply astounding, but the instances of real integration, real inclusion, are almost as rare as ever. In the effete circles of urban life, you will sometimes (and more than you once would have) see an interracial pairing. But this phenomenon is still in the extreme minority -within the margin of error of the sample, and often exists in the face of silent and embarrassed opposition from the parents and friends of those involved, the coupling being an implicit rejection of their “kind”.

What would a world without real human kinds look like? This is a question the militant integrationists never stop to ask, much less answer, except during an uncommon access of candidness. It would look like the gray, leaden, deadening uniformity under communism. Indeed, forced racial integration is a species of communism. After racial homogenization, how far behind could ideological homogenization lag? This is the nightmare scenario that cannot and will not ever be acknowledged. It is but a short step from the Proposition Nation to the Ministry of Truth. If Minitrue were operating amongst us, how many would recognize it? Our sophistication and accomplishment in the matter of persuasion (over against the bumbling of jackboots) is unquestionable. The industry of suggestion is the real scientific triumph of the 20th century, not atomic bombs or heart transplants.

The truth is that ideological homogenization is not lagging at all, it is here in the very conformism that makes the titular triumph of integrationism possible, along with the universal denial that there is any actual dissent from this position. The reason why self-segregation must be attacked is two-fold. It is commercial and political. Lincoln himself admitted what no integrationist will today: that it is entirely possible that a single government cannot comprehend and unify the diversity that is this country. Perhaps this is simply beyond the powers of even the Super State, the Leviathan of our own time. Kinists are convinced that it is, and were it not, it would remain an evil purpose. Unfettered industrial interests and the cult of political expediency need desperately for the facts of race to be made to go away, as quickly as possible. Self-segregation in schools is one of many examples of why it won’t, and further, if politicos were honest with themselves, why, even if it did, it would be a disaster beyond reckoning. So here’s to the stubbornness and intractability of race consciousness and self-segregation. May the weakness of that water over time, wear down the strength of rock that would make men live in an artificial world, with artificial values, under an artificial flag, with regulated opinions, and regulated faces. Sounds like hell to us.
