Welcome to Our World, Bill
Bill Clinton was recently interviewed about his role in his wife’s failed presidential campaign. I know, I know . . . she was actually running for the Democrat nomination for the presidency. But you better believe that in her mind she was engaged in nothing less than taking possession of what she believes to be rightfully hers. Anyhow, during the interview with her husband, Bill was asked, “Do you personally have any regrets about what you did campaigning for your wife?” Bill replied, “Yes, but not the ones you think, and it would be counterproductive for me to talk about it. There are things that I wish I had urged her to do, things I wish I had said, things I wish I hadn’t said.” And then, out of the blue, Bill felt the need to make the emphatic declaration, “But I am NOT a racist, I NEVER made a racist comment.”
Bill, take it from a man who knows about these things; take it from a community that has heaps of experience with being called racist: if you have to declare that you’re not a racist, then you’re already tagged as a racist. You might as well have the word tattooed on your forehead. You very well might not be a racist, depending on what the word means at this particular moment. (You see, Bill, the Jackals who are the self-appointed official racism police will not define the word. That way, they can apply it to anyone at any time, and they can endow it with ad hoc nuances.) So, Bill, just forget about defending yourself from this – you’re a racist, regardless of the facts. Welcome to our world.
