An older article, but one that deserves attention, primarily for its efforts to divert attention away from the genuine causes of population decline threatening the West. The reason the Demographic Bomb may only go “pop,” says the article’s author Donald McNeil Jr., is because it is not universal -that is, certain nations and regions will be largely unaffected. A great relief, to be sure, if one happens to be a globalist environmental hand-wringer, rather than a nativist “breeder.” While the fact of depopulation is itself alarming enough, the “whom” and “why” of rapid Western depopulation is verboten. In the course of the article, we eventually get ‘round to inadvertent mention of one of the primary causes of depopulation, but it is predictably minimized by the Malthusian NYT. In fact, the psycho-social factors go almost unmentioned in the article. But the managing censors allowed one important quote in the article to slip through their disinformation nets. One can only surmise that this is due to the relatively shoddy editorial standards at the Times in general, and the relative lack of scrutiny paid to online material in particular. In any case, the article accidentally mentions one of the genuine causes of Western depopulation in its attempt to cover up those causes, and that is the loss of the agrarian way of life and the concentration of populations into cities. The article cites United Nations population expert Joseph Chamie, and he let slip the following:
Of course the comment that “children are not as helpful” is a polite way of saying that children are a “cost” in cities, whereas they are a benefit in agrarian/entrepreneur economies. While the policy brains of the U.S. administration are focused on job creation during the malaprop “jobless recovery,” no one of any importance in policy formation is concerned about the real problem: the need for jobs themselves. “Jobs” are needed by corporations, by Dagny Taggarts and Hank Reardons -that is, jobs to offer “workers” -that is, until they can be replaced by that magical force “productivity” which inexplicably manages to slash jobs, while miraculously giving everyone something to earn money at. But a worker is not a free man. An entrepreneur/artisan/agrarian freeholder IS. And freedom is the last thing desired in the Land of the Free. The Demographic Bomb is nothing but the delayed social and economic cost of the Great Transformation.
It is highly interesting when a representative of the United Nations bureaucracy utters any truth whatsoever, so this slip of the tongue is noteworthy. Underlying the message of Demographic Winter is a stark fact: some populations are falling faster than others. This racial-ethnic discrepancy is, of course, unmentionable, and thus what otherwise might be news is not news because it affects the future of whites and Chinese disproportionately. In particular, the demographers at the UN aren’t alarmed by the disappearance of whites. Fools like Mark Steyn have dismissed the concern, because he’s part of a ruthlessly self-loathing lot, and a propagandist for the “proposition nation,” that fictional entity cum imperative that justifies the state in its opening of the floodgates of immigration -a prevarication at best, to aid the disastrous move of multi-nationals to obtain economic advantage through social engineering.
But with the rapid proletarianization of the North American population and the disappearance of the middle class and the petit bourgeoisie, increasingly real wages have stagnated, and soon enough there will be few remaining who can buy the luxury offerings of these same multi-nationals because their market will no longer have participated much at all in the planning, design, and production of these products, and thus will not have received the high wages necessary to afford a “1st World” lifestyle. Indeed, real North American economic interests are being sacrificed to the overseas markets of foreign companies and multi-nationals -one reason why the Yuan has been artificially devalued: in order to prop up China’s gigantic export economy, which would collapse like a house of cards if its currency were allowed to assume its actual value in the market.
The bottom line is that the crypto-fascist command economies of the West are non-functional, and engender terrible social consequences (like declining populations). But you will never read the real reasons for this being explored by Pravda on the Hudson.
