Soul Searcher (2005)

—-

This is a pretty good, albeit low budget, film available from Netflix (and likely video stores). It is not something one will come away from exhilarated, but it is enjoyable.

It could be classed within a loosely Christian fantasy genre with angels and creatures from Hell. And there’s an implied existence of Heaven.

There’s no nudity, no sexual references, no sexual desires, etc. But there are several cases of true love, that continue on eternally even when one (of a couple) passes on to the next life (be it Heaven or Hell).

—-

Every character that I noticed was white and British. No race-mixing propaganda.

There is some rock music involved, but it’s only as music & dancing (including in front of a band) and not as anything indecent. The lyrics of the band are not indecent either.

Soul Searcher was anti-modern in one or two lines specifically: escapism was criticised in favour of real life experiences.

Another movie I saw recently, dragon wars (PG-13), I liked decently well except for one small scene: a brief nudity flash… There’s no reason for the flash except for a potential boost in sales.

The Korean pagan themes within Dragon Wars didn’t bother me, though they might bother some (e.g. reincarnation), but it’s ridiculous how perversions are added into every movie nowadays.

—-

The lack of anti-Western themes within Soul Searcher is very refreshing. I don’t watch many movies, but anyway it’s rare that I come away without complaint as I did with Soul Searcher.

I can only recommend Soul Searcher as fully within what most kinists would approve.

Dragon Wars is harmless, except for the flash and possibly the Korean pagan references.

Memorable lines from In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007):

Norick: Solana, is this where we pay for our sins?

Solana: No, Norick. This is where we pay for our virtues. Sins are more than welcome here.

That’s what the lines sound like to my ear… It’s quoted differently here, albeit with the same meaning.

-

Another good quote (taken from here):

Merick: In your world, you are to BOW to your king!
Farmer Daimon: In my world, the king’s army is expected to protect the kingdom, not just the castle.

-

The movie is not ideal.

Race: There are blacks serving lead positions (e.g. the General is black) within the majority white kingdom.

Sex: There might be some brief nudity, though there are no extended sex scenes or perversion. There’s at least no nudity that appears intentionally added like the aforementioned (previous post) flash, which was totally unnecessary. Since “nudity” today is not defined by just any portion of the breast but by specific portions, it can be difficult to know sometimes. By my own definition, we shouldn’t be seeing much of any part of the female breast.

Religion: There’s a line that appears anti-Christian (something about God not watching over the innocent.) The king is burned like a pagan, and the pagan magician does good with his magic.

Feminism: the magician’s daughter fights as both a magician and a swordsman. There are some sort of dryad female warriors (quasi-Amazonian and quasi-Wiccan) too.

However, it has many virtues and is better than probably 95% of movies made today. The heir to the throne doesn’t much want the power, another who seeks the throne is deemed unworthy, the heir developed virtue from farming, general valour and honour are encouraged, the evil magician acts similar to how one might think of Satan (e.g. vanity, desire for power, use of seduction, manipulation, and rule of a kingdom that looks like Hell), and probably there are many other good points.

-

Blind Guardians are also on the Soundtrack and play at the end of the movie. They’re a pretty good Euro-centric, nominally Christian but pagan leaning metal/folk band - “nominally Christian” meaning I think they identify as Christians but are not devout, though being respectful of it. At least that’s their public appearance.

Yggdrasil’s Movie List is a great starting point. He might not be a kinist, but many of those readers here will approve of.

Another list of interesting, pro-Southern, movies can be found here:

Two Dozen Southern Family Movies

Can’t verify the purity of all the films, but the list seems interesting.

The films suggested below all have been produced on video. All of them give an accurate view of some aspect of past Southern life and history. All can be watched with your children without shame. Most teach ethical lessons and many of the stories include young people. There are many other good Southern stories on film (as well as a multitude of bad ones) but which are suitable only for mature viewers.

God bless,
Laurel

Birth of a Nation is great. I look forward to the day when our own independent media advances to the stage where we will have the ability to build our own film industry like the independent Judeo-xian media has now. Then we can finally create a modern remake of Birth of a Nation that is at least as well done as Gone with the Wind.

Speaking of the independent Judeo-xian film industry I recently heard of a movie being made by one of their stars whom many probably remember as TV teen actor from the 80’s, Mike Siever. Kirk Cameron is staring in a new role as a fire-fighter with marriage problems. In it he follows a step by step program his father gives him for reconstructing his relationship with his wife.

I don’t know how well this film will stack up by Kinist standards but it is at least nice to know there are some actors in Holywood with the courage and integrity to defy Holywood tradition in the name of their faith. He may not be Kinist but he is setting a precedent for other actors and actresses to follow which could in the future open the door to Kinist actors and actresses. Check out this MSN video interview with Kirk Cameron in which he explains why he won’t even kiss another woman other than his wife, even when acting.

Is that film called Fireproof?

On a budget of $500,000, Fireproof opened in theaters on September 26, 2008, and was the highest grossing independent film of 2008, with $33,456,317 domestically. Reviews for the film were mixed, with Christians groups giving positive reviews and film critics giving generally negative reviews. It was also released to DVD on January 27, 2009, with over $25,000,000 in DVD sales. The film received the Best Feature Film award at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.

Haven’t seen it yet, has anyone here seen it?

Wow those reviews answered pretty much everything I wanted to know about the movie, thanks! While it seems to have a few drawbacks [and what can we expect from a Judeo-xian flick made in unHolywood?] I think it might be interesting to watch. I got a completely different impression from the review I read of it on some Blog. In the review I read the Blogger said he got the steps to save his marriage from his dad not from some Feminist book.  Guess I’ll have to watch it and write my own review.

Thanks, I’m watching it now and will write up a review very soon. I found the movie on Mininova. Here is the link. But to DL it you’ll need one of the free torrent programs such as Vuze or Bittorrent. I’ve used a lot of different progs but my favorite is Bitcomet. If anyone needs help setting their’s up let me know. It can be little difficult to get it downloading at optimum efficiency if you are new to torrenting.
