I don’t believe we have posted information about this site, so here it is.  The site seems to be of interest for older students, high school and above, who want to CLEP college courses.

Free University Project

The mission of the Free University Project on the Internet is to produce directly, or through links, guided independent study materials that can lead to college credit by examination

College credit by examination is awarded to students who sucessfully take standard examinations such as CLEP, DSST(DANTES), PEP, TECEP, AP and can be used as an important tool by everyone.

# High school students who take AP (Advanced Placement) classes can use this site as a way to expand their knowledge. If their high school does not offer a specific AP class they can integrate study for a CLEP exam with a regular high school class. (See the Guidance section for more details).
# College students can use exams to cut costs, gain greater flexibility over their work/class schedules, and make dead time, summers, and vacations more productive.
# Returning students (or those in the military) who have had some college, continuing ed, or technical school training, can work towards a degree at their own pace and their own schedule.
# Adult learners (I really hate that term, but we’re stuck with it) who have no college, but aspire to a degree, can start building credits in the privacy of their own home, picking those subjects they can learn on their own, and attending classes, or taking advantage of distance learning and telecourses, to obtain the rest of their credits.
# Everyone else interested in building a coherent body of knowledge in a specific subject that interests them.

Laurel,

Here is a site with free online language lessons. They are rather short but might be of use.

Early Indo-European Online
Introduction to the Language Lessons

...

About the Series Lessons

The texts in these lessons were selected for the historical and cultural information they provide; they have not been simplified, but sections may be omitted. Each lesson series comprises a number of glossed texts (usually ten), each with a brief introduction identifying its author and the document from which it was taken, an English translation, and five Grammar points; other resources in each series include a Table of Contents and a Series Introduction, a Master Glossary of words covering all lesson texts, a Base Form Dictionary also spanning the texts, and an English Meaning Index to the glosses. Listed in order of [first] online publication:

Latin Online [2002] is designed to teach you to read Latin, or to improve your reading knowledge. After completing the course, you should be able to read any Latin texts. You may find it easier to use texts with translations, such as the Loeb Classics.

Classical Greek Online [2002], likewise, is designed to teach you to read classical Greek texts or to improve your reading knowledge. New Testament Greek Online [2003] includes some of the central N.T. passages; it is designed like Greek Online.

Old Church Slavonic Online [2003] is written in the same format with the same goals in mind. Seven OCS texts are taken from the New Testament; two of these (lessons 6, 7) parallel texts in our New Testament Greek series. Three non-Biblical texts, from other sources, are included for literary variety. An annotated bibliography, rather than being included as lesson points 46-50 in lesson 10 as in the Latin/Greek series, is listed separately; see the link at the bottom of the OCS Series Introduction page.

Classical Armenian Online [2004] is a collection of 5 lessons, with texts dated from the 5th to 7th centuries A.D. Again, the annotated bibliography is separate; see the link at the bottom of the Armenian Series Introduction page.

Old Iranian Online [2004] is a 10-lesson series in which two related languages are covered: Avestan (lessons 1-6), with texts from the 10th - 6th centuries B.C., and Old Persian (7-10), with texts from the 6th - 5th centuries B.C. Each language has its own brief annotated bibliography. For Avestan, two dialects are covered: “old” (lessons 1-4) and “young[er]” (5-6). A short list of works for Further Reading also appears at the end of the Series Introduction.

Old Norse Online [2005] is a 10-lesson series, with texts from the 9th - 14th centuries A.D. A separate annotated bibliography is included (see link at bottom of Series Introduction page).

Baltic Online is a collection of 7 Lithuanian lessons [2005] covering texts from the 16th - 20th centuries A.D., plus an additional set of 3 Latvian lessons [2007] covering texts from the 16th - 19th centuries A.D.

Hittite Online [2005] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the 17th - 12th centuries B.C. A short bibliography appears at the end of the Series Introduction.

Ancient Sanskrit Online [2006] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the Rigveda, dating perhaps from the beginning of the 2nd millennium B.C. A separate tabular index to Rigvedic passages covered in the series is included (see link at bottom of Series Introduction page). After this series was completed, an online version of the full metrically restored Rigveda text was prepared; it is transcribed in Unicode.

Gothic Online [2006] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the Gothic New Testament and from Skeireins, together dated in the 4th - 5th centuries A.D. Half of these texts (lessons 1, 4, 6, 7, 10) parallel texts in our New Testament Greek series.

Old French Online [2006] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the 9th - 13th centuries A.D. Grammar points 46-50, in lesson 10, comprise a short bibliography.

Old Irish Online [2006-07] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the 6th - 10th centuries A.D.

Old English Online [2007] is a 10-lesson series with texts from the 7th - 10th centuries A.D.

Tocharian Online [2007-08, in progress] is (to be) a 10-lesson series—the first grammar of Tocharian presented in English.

BNP Launches ‘White History’ Project to Counter State’s Forced ‘Black History’ at Schools

The British National Party is to launch a ‘white history’ project as a counter to the announcement that the state is to make the learning of ‘black history’ compulsory at all UK schools.

The white history project will consist of a series of downloadable articles on great contributions to the world by white British and European peoples, the detailing of the far bigger Muslim slave trading empire and promotions on books dealing with white history.

“In addition to the special downloadable articles we will be producing, we are also working on a Euro-centric homeschooling curriculum, which people will be able to use to counter the anti-white propaganda coming from the government,” he concluded.

This sounds really promising; I will make a good faith attempt to review them as they appear.

God bless,
Laurel

The Excalibur online store, the BNP’s official store, has some fascinating educational resources in its stationery and dvd section. Some of them are:

Anglo-Saxon 15cm plastic ruler
A plastic ruler with measurements and inches marked on it. The insert shows a painting of the Battle of Hastings on the front and a timeline of the Anglo Saxon period from AD 400 to Ad 1066.

British History 12” (30cm) wooden ruler
A wooden ruler that has measurements in both centimetres and inches on one side and has a timeline of the kings and queens of England on the other.

Tudor History Ruler - 15cm
A plastic ruler with measurements in centimetres and inches. The insert shows images of four Tudor kings and queens on the front and a timeline of the Tudors on the reverse.

DVD: Alfred the Great
Few kings in English history deserve the epithet “great” more than Alfred, King of Wessex. In an age and country blighted by Viking invasions, Alfred inflicted repeated defeats upon the Norsemen and set about administrating the Danelaw to secure the unity of England. The great king also organised his forces into a standing army and built a recognised navy. Alfred was not only a fine warrior but was also a deeply religious man, a scholar and lawmaker. Featuring superb atmospheric dramatised reconstructions, surviving period imagery and “eye-witness” reports, this programme provides a unique account of the life of one of England’s truly great monarchs. Narrated by Peter Twist. Run time 55 minutes.

Loads of other goodies for homeschoolers interested in British and European History.

God bless,
Laurel

iTunes University offers free audio lectures from Reformed Theological Seminary, including an interesting History of Christianity series of lectures, as well as education providers like the Indianapolis Museum of Art (movies about their collections); many fine arts course offerings from various providers; and course offerings from major universities.

From just poking around, it appears that all offerings are free.

To access iTunes University, open iTunes, click on iTunes Store. The link is in a list on the upper left side of the Store, not a big, dramatic link, but clicking on it should take you to the main iTunes U site, from which you can either search for course topics or providers, or browse the featured links.

God bless,
Laurel

The Homeschool Legal Defense Association’s newsletter relays an offer not to be missed.

The National Endowment for the Humanities has launched a new project aimed at inspiring Americans about our history through art masterpieces.

Entitled “Picturing America,” the program offers free art prints and educational materials to homeschool families. HSLDA will supplement this with a free course and DVD, along with online materials, quizzes, and teacher’s guide—all from a Christian perspective. Our free course will be available in April 2009.

The NEH will send you 40 huge, high-quality color reproductions (24 by 36 inches) of famous paintings and other art in March 2009. You will also receive a teacher’s resource book with a wide range of ideas and background information to help you use the works of art in core subject areas

There are only 18,000 of these packages available, and they will only be sent to groups of two or more homeschool families (does your church have a homeschool group, or do you belong to a homeschool co-op?). Interested groups have to register by November 12th here: Picturing America.

If you wish to look at the artwork represented, go here: NEH Picturing America web site.

God bless,
Laurel
