This thread is intended to gather European cultural video links. YouTube isn’t the only video hosting site, but currently it’s probably the best.
I’d prefer this gathering to be separate from more political videos, e.g. no videos about NAU and immigration, please.
H/T: Several I first saw at kinist sites like Natural Consequences, Hearthstone, and of course SpiritWaterBlood. At least one (building Stonehenge) was found at CofCC, which recently published an article about a growing music revival in Europe. Another (Degeneration) came from The Distributist Review.
All are welcomed and encouraged to host links to these videos at their own sites as they see fit. SpiritWaterBlood has a really neat YouTube player window that, try as I might, I can’t duplicate. Those with better HTML skills, look to SWB for a superb design (ah, provided SWB doesn’t mind, which I doubt they would.)
Jews’ nationality is Jewish, else they aren’t Jews. So, they prevent themselves from being European - also they’re of a different race. And kinists can only be Christian.
And, I don’t want to encourage the Jewish superiority complex.
So, video removed. However, at least one classical music piece should be up there. Maybe someone who’s into classical music could locate a YouTube video. Kissin might not be the greatest piano player, but he’s the greatest I could find at YouTube.
For those who wish to download videos from youtube just in case they suddenly go missing (which happens frequently) and you still want to be able to watch them, there is a good article with references to downloading sites and file converters here:
For those who consider opera part of the European cultural heritage, here are some videos to watch at Youtube.
Nessum Dorma (None Shall Sleep), sung by Paul Potts. From the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini. Lovely voice, and his unprepossessing personality are masterfully, uh, glossed over with great production values.
Downloading Youtube videos is a good idea. Realplayer allows downloading of videos too, but it has some bugs (one rare bug downloads a massive junk file that fills the HDDs - it created one on mine > 100GB).
Those two have amazing voices - I should become familiar with Opera.
Opera is magnificent musical theatre. I won’t say it is a transforming spiritual experience; indeed, many of the plots and characters sound like they belong on the Jerry Springer Show rather than the Metropolitan’s stage.
But the music and the singing (when it ascends beyond the reach and screech school of singing) is divine. I had the good fortune to be able to listen to my mother’s Caruso recordings while I was growing up, and it has enhanced my appreciation of all music.
Speaking of fine vocal music, what about Bach’s St. Matthew Passion? The first time I heard it I was driving from one town to another and it was playing on the local classical music station. I confess to continuing to drive around and around in the destination town just to listen to the music a bit more.
While this may not come under the heading of youtube or other downloadable video, it certainly appears to be of interest at first glance.
Keep in mind that I’ve only watched the trailers and read the story synopsis, but PenDragon: Sword of his Father seems to be a film that is rooted in historical events, with a Christian worldview, that addresses a man’s hope of saving his people, the Britons.
OK, I am going to order the DVD, and hope to have a more in-depth review once I view the whole movie. My hope is that it avoids the awkward acting and preachiness (present the plan of salvation by Act III) that some Christian films are prey to. The trailers are pretty good, although a few of the lines seem to echo my concern about awkward acting. So we shall see.
Boy, it would be great to have a decent film out there that doesn’t fall into the multi-cultural propaganda trap…
God bless,
Laurel
Addendum after watching this movie:
The Burns Family should stay in the film production business and get out of the acting business (and script writing is a bit lame as well). Gorgeously shot and CGI’d film, nicely edited. Really looks good. However, the acting, much of it done by Burns family members, is wooden in the extreme. Script would probably be OK if the actors knew when to pause, which they don’t.
Probably a two star ranking out of three. Worth watching for the cultural consistency and the ongoing battle to save the lead’s People. This might play better with the very young children than it did with us adults.
