Every now and again I run across things that are simply too good to pass up, even though they don’t fit into one of our other categories. Today I found that Amazon.com offers a great many absolutely FREE mp3 downloads, and I looked through the list and found many downloads of Scottish and Irish music for varying instruments and a lot of free offerings in other genres.

Here’s how you find the free mp3s:

Go to Amazon.com, select Search mp3 Downloads. Leave the search field blank. Then, in the Sort menu, choose Sort by Price, Low to High. The free downloads will be listed first in your results, and there are pages and pages of them.

Enjoy!

There is this odd little site called Cimmay which styles itself as “...a non-profit, public archive for purposes of non-critical preservation, scholarship, or research.”

It is divided into three parts, Arts, Living, and Theology. Each part contains extensive listings of .pdf files of primarily 19th century and early 20th century documents, which are available, free, for immediate download.

Here are the interesting parts: The Living section contains some 19th century and early 20th century documents on relations between the Negro and White races, and characteristics of the Negro race, that I have not seen available elsewhere. Titles include: The Negro Problem; Your Negro Neighbor; God’s Dealings with the Negro; “The Negro a Beast”; The Negro a Menace to American Civilization; The Ethiopian; The Devil Between the White Man and the Negro; The Negro Problem in the United States; The Negro and the White Man; In Darkest Africa; The Southern Negro as he is; The Heart of Africa; Race Decadence; and Negro Problem Solved.

The Theology section has pdfs of odd titles, and I can’t vouch for the theological concepts contained in any of them. So caveat emptor, OK? It contains many more, but here are some of the titles: The Urantia Papers; The Book of Enoch; The Illustrated Scripture History for the Young; Religio MediciThe Catholic Christian Instructed.

The Arts section is just as eclectic: Hymns for the Amusement of Children; The Dream of Hell; The Christ of Cynewulf and on and on.

Again, caveat emptor, but it appears there are some interesting documents here not available elsewhere to my knowledge.

God bless,
Laurel

Wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but The Art of Manliness website currently has a page devoted to The Manly Advice of Robert E. Lee, including a possibility of winning a copy of the book, The Maxims of Robert E. Lee for Young Gentlemen, by Richard G. Williams, Jr., the author of the blog post and blogger at Old Virginia Blog.

I admire Lee. He was the finest of the finest of our kind.

I thought I would copy this post over here:

KW and Faust,

It certainly would make it seem attractive to a young White who needs to eat.

I do think young Whites (married and single) can be more creative with income production than always sucking at the government teat, however.

The Merchant Maiden: Earning an Income Without Compromising Convictions ebook
by Crystal Paine

Drawing upon personal experience, Crystal Paine encourages young women and their families with Scripture, advice, suggestions, personal testimonies, wisdom, and practical ideas. Not just for unmarried women, this booklet is a treasure trove of information for any woman who desires to earn an income while still being a “keeper at home.” 25 pages.

Homegrown Business

Practical Advice…

A wealth of practical advice is woven into the inspirational stories. Topics are covered such as: How to Balance Homeschooling and Home Business, Why Owning a Home Business May or May Not Be the Best Thing for Your Family, How to Involve Your Children in Your Home Business, How to Integrate Your Home Business into Your Children’s Education, and much more!

Practical Projects for Our Children: Part 1
Practical Projects for Our Children: Part 2
Practical Projects for Our Children: Part 3
The latter article (part 3) references Steve Maxwell’s book, Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single-Income Family, as an important resource for raising sons. Steve shares from Scripture and his own experience with five sons. His oldest, Nathan, purchased a home debt-free at the age of 24, before he married. Christopher, the second son, is also able to do the same. To find out more about the book (which also comes in an unabridged audiobook), please click on the link. I’ve read it (even though I don’t have sons) and it seems to make some excellent points.

As a group, Whites need to become less dependent…not more…

God bless,
Laurel

It has come to my attention that some of our people come under fire for the usually politically correct reasons from time to time. This article, over at Occidental Observer, is quite inspiriing and useful for those up-close-and-personal-threats-to-income-and-reputation moments.

Advice to Racially Conscious Whites Under Fire
by Robert S. Griffin

Let’s hope none of us need this; however, it’s good to keep it in mind.

Movies about hard times:

In a poor economy, we’re the richer for these 10 films about economic woes
By ROBERT W. BUTLER

While I might disagree with his choice of one or two films, overall this is a pretty good list of films that address issues of hard times in one way or another. Some are comedy, some serious. The Bicycle Thief is always one of my favorites.

They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? makes me tired just watching it.

Wasn’t sure where to put this resource I discovered today, so I thought I’d drop it in here.

With so many neo-medievalists in our little group now, and some Catholic/Anglo-Catholic/Orthodox/Anglican folks around, it’s nice to find a web site that offers the items produced by the many monasteries of these faiths. Really, the site is a a treasure chest of lovely/tasty/pleasant-to-hear goods created by monastics. Their prices are good overall as well. Enjoy!

I have no idea how many of our readers live in the Los Angeles, CA area, but the Getty Center and Getty Villa often have very interesting programs on art from our cultural heritage.

Upcoming is the following one-day course, which sounds really interesting to me. Please note that it is NOT free, as so many of the events there are. However, the day seems well worth the price.

Illuminating German Art and Opera

Date: Saturday, March 21, 2009
Time: 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Museum Lecture Hall and Museum galleries
Admission: $60, students/seniors $30 (course fee includes lunch). Open to 140 participants. Call (310) 440-7300 or use the “Get Tickets” button below.

Fill your day with looking, listening, and learning about German manuscripts and opera. This program brings scholars of art and music together to explore the connections between the exhibition German and Central European Manuscript Illumination (on view at the Getty Center February 24–May 24, 2009) and LA Opera’s production of the first two installments of Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, Das Rheingold and Die Walküre.

The day includes illustrated lectures, guided gallery tours, and a recital with piano and voice.

About the Speakers

Henrike Manuwald received her PhD in history of art and German literature from Cologne University and is a fellow of Trinity College London (violin). After completing her current internship in the Department of Manuscripts of the J. Paul Getty Museum, she will take up an assistant professorship in medieval German literature at Freiburg University.

Mitchell Morris is associate professor in the Department of Musicology at UCLA. He has written and spoken on a plethora of topics, including 19th- and 20th-century opera, gender and sexuality in music, American popular song, problems of musical ethics, and the songs of humpback whales.

James Conlon, one of today’s preeminent conductors, is music director of the LA Opera. This season he is conducting the first two installments of Wagner’s Ring cycle, Das Rheingold and Die Walküre. He has conducted to acclaim across Europe and North America and received numerous awards, including the Crystal   Globe   Award from the Anti -  Defamation   League for his efforts in championing the works of composers silenced by the Nazi regime.

My only quibble with the day is the fact that they had to include that little bit about James Conlon having received an award from the A D L. Guess they are afraid of the very idea that Germans have/had a cultural legacy of their own. God forbid.

Voice of Reason Radio Network

While I have to be in the mood to appreciate the programs broadcast via this internet radio network, every so often the truly sly and somewhat wicked humor of Compulsory Diversity News (available via podcast as well) is good for a chuckle. And Edgar J. Steele’s (Defensive Racism) new Nickel Rant is interesting.

Not a Christian bone in the body of their programming; however, many points we might agree on.

Ever wonder if your ISP was tracking the web sites you visit to provide targeted ads?

Visit UW CSE and ICSI Web Integrity Checker and find out.

Can’t figure out where to put this, but it’s kind of interesting to those of a mind to learn riflery.

The Appleseed Project

What the RWVA (Revolutionary War Veterans Association) is all about:
The Appleseed Program is designed to take you from being a simple rifle owner to being a true rifleman. All throughout American history, the rifleman has been defined as a marksman capable of hitting a man-sized target from 500 yards away — no ifs, ands or buts about it. This 500-yard range is traditionally known as “the rifleman’s quarter-mile;” a rifleman can hit just about any target he can see. This skill was particulary evident in the birth of our country, and was the difference in winning the Revolutionary War.

So why me?
This country was founded and won by riflemen who fought and beat British forces. We invite all interested marksmen to learn the skills and techniques necessary to shoot proficiently; and then hope you’ll participate in teaching and practicing with others so that together we can save this great land. Why you? Well, that’s simple: if you’re on this page we’re betting you’re a patriot, and we hope you answer the call.

What’s a rifleman?
In short, a rifleman is an armed American, trained in the tradition of American Liberty. It’s a man who has learned to shoot a rifle accurately — accurate enough to score “expert” on the Army Qualification Course. Until you can do that, you’re considered a “Cook,” unprepared and unqualified to carry a rifle on the firing line of freedom. But after attending an Appleseed AQT shoot, you’ll have the credentials necessary to be a true rifleman, and will understand the critical need for defending freedom in this country.

The RWVA is dedicated to the Appleseed Program and encourages every American to learn to shoot.

Wikipedia article about a logical fallacy I see used all the time…

Reductio ad Hitlerum

While some of the content examples are not necessarily things I agree with, it is a really well done outline of what the fallacy is and how to counter it.

A brown guy says, “anti-white racism is f***d up.”

Anti-White Racism

The kid gets it (foul language at times). But he gets it.

He appears to be East Indian-American. He certainly makes some good points.

Announcing the 30 Days to a Better Man Project

Starting June 1, The Art of Manliness will begin a month long series called “30 Days to a Better Man.” The goal of this project is simple: to encourage men to be better men in all areas of their lives. I’m sure all of us have made goals to improve ourselves. But often our goals become one of those well meaning intentions that we plan to do…. some day. And if you’re like me, some day never comes, and you’re stuck in the same place of mediocrity you were before.

Personally, I’m more likely to follow through with a goal if I have a specific plan, instead of just some ethereal intention. I’m also more likely to accomplish a goal if I have a group of people who are encouraging me and keeping me accountable.

The 30 Days to a Better Man Project is designed to provide a specific plan and accountability to help you become a better man. And guess what? It’s 100% free. Are you up for the challenge? If so, read on.

Interesting. Not a bad idea.
