Please try to maintain alphabetical sorting in this list. When it is a mature list we will move it to the wiki where articles can be written and linked together.

[Note: the following list was developed from memory by John Marshall and is not currently alphabetized or sorted in any manner. This will be done at a later time when the list is more mature. Please also make use of this other fantastic list of counterrevolutionary, traditionalist, monarchist, conservative, paleoconservative, and reactionary authors. I believe the other list was substantially developed by James Kalb, an important contemporary reactionary author who was the principal writer at the Turnabout website and who has been published by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. Where our list departs from his is in the inclusion of some Protestant theologians, Christian reconstructionists, and theonomists. Please correct any spelling errors as you see them. This is a group-maintained list and is not owned by anyone, so add to it or correct it as you find the time to do so. You will not be able to edit the original post, so make additions or corrections in subsequent posts and I will combine them from time to time.]

This is a priceless list.

I’ve found many books by the authors on Amazon for under $2.

You’ve given us quite the homework assignment Mr. Marshall!

Should we add Wendell Berry to the list?

Should we add Wendell Berry to the list?

Yes, I think so. I was trying to remember his name the other day and and you’ve come up with the very person I was trying to think of. He’s a central figure for us.

I tentatively also recommend: The Darwin Inheritance as well as Eugenics and Other Evils by Chesterton.

I’d furthermore recommend at least including Cicero.

Good references, Frank. I look forward to reading those I can.

Laurel

Don’t just take my word for it though. Read them and see what you think. If they don’t make your list, that should be for you to decide since this is your list. A group list won’t be as effective - such a thing has to be the work of one man, or at least one man must judge with the last word. You might later consider removing some of what you’ve already included too.

You could similarly narrow down this list and recommend an essential 10 or “first ten to read”, with the others following.

Thanks. Actually I see JM wrote:

I’d still like to see later on a list carefully selected by JM, perhaps some years down the road, though I’m embarrassed I skipped over the introduction paragraph.

Since this is a group list, I’ll expand my recommendations later.
