Kissing Cousins

Leave it to the NY Times to turn an article on the DNA evidence of Neanderthal/Cro Magnon interbreeding into a paean to the results of miscegenation.

All the same, the idea of Neanderthal ancestry brings a vividness to the distant past. Were the men exotic and sexy? What were half-Neanderthal, half-human children like? Were they extra-beautiful, as people with mixed ancestries often are? Did they have an unusual hungering for red meat? Did we learn Neanderthal customs, or languages?

Yeah, well, I know some neanderthals today, and most work for major newspapers…

I’m trying to figure out why “exotic” = “beautiful” now. I look at Beyonce and I see a genetic train wreck, not beauty. But I’m old fashioned. Once upon a time we wanted white people to look like white people always had, and blacks the same. No more,  for the majority.

Oh, and here’s a similar article in which is presented evidence for mating between Neanderthals and “Early Humans.” But the evidence makes for some starling conclusions, if you adhere to the PC theory of human origins. It seems that the case for exclusively African human origins is being undermined by the new evidence.
