To your list above I would add Pierre Duhem, a prominent French scientist who was blackballed due to his research into the medieval origins of empirical science, contradicting the dominant view that scientific thought was unknown to the backward “religionists” of the period.

Interesting thanks, I’ll look out for anything by him as well. Wonder if he was aware of Max Weber’s discovery of the origins of the modern rational Western scientific mind in the Old Testament of all places? I say “of all places” facetiously of course since I unlike most secular critics do not view the Old Testament as being full of superstitious nonsense thus it comes as no surprise to me to learn that rational enlightenment was made possible by the foundations laid by Biblical law and the prophets which any serious Bible student knows struggled against the superstitions of ancient times.
